Lions women pick up five provisionals and a building record in final day
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up five more provisionals and a building record in the mile today in the final day of the 2010 Fazolis/Baymont Inn Invitational at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Kimi Shank scored a victory in the mile as the Southern women dominated the event placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 13th. Shank hit a provisional time of 4:58.30 and broke the Leggett & Platt building record set in 2007 by Pittsburg State's Vanessa Lee. The time is first in the MIAA this season so far and is fifth best nationally in Division II. Courtney Waltbillig was second with a provisional time of 5:00.80, while Ashley Bunch picked up a provisional of her own finishing in 5:00.89.
Ciaa Lipsey was first in the pole vault with a provisional height of 12-03.50, while Lisa Vengels improved her provisional height with a first place finish (5-06.00) in the high jump. Rachel Olinyk and Gayla Booth were 6th and 8th in the event. Olinyk was sixth in the triple jump, as well.
Erin Steffens placed third in the shot put with a throw of 43-01.75, while Emilie Mieseler and Nicole Green were fourth and fifth, respectively. Cortney Vie and Brandy Simpson placed ninth and 22nd in the event, as well.
Cyarra Prince and Jeanna Sheppard were third and fifth in the 60m hurdles, while Price was eighth in the 400 meters and Danielle Oliver placed 10th in the event.
Carita Riutta was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.01, while Alex Close was 14th and Simpson was 27th.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing at Central Missouri.
