Shank's record setting night highlights first day at FSU Relays
Tallahassee, Fla. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team had a record-setting performance in the 5k, finishing first and second in the event, at the Florida State University Relays today in Tallahassee.
Kimi Shank and Courtney Waltbillig placed first and second in the 5k with times of 16:52.84 and 17:11.50. Shank's time breaks her own school record that she set on this same track two years ago and is an automatic qualifying time. Waltbillig's time is a very strong provisional resultin the event. Marlee Tegenkamp and Victoria Kline finished 12th and 22nd, respectively in the event.
In other action, Ciara Lipsey picked up a provisional height in the pole vault, finishing sixth with a height of 12-06.00. Alison Walker, Olga Bulgarova and Michelle Stevens placed 3rd, 6th and 9th in the 800 meters, while Alex Close was 27th in the event.
Ashley Bunch placed second in the 3k steeple chase with a provisional time of 10:53.43. Brandy Simpson, Lisa Vengels and Gayla Booth placed 13th, 18th and 20th, respectively in the long jump, while Kiley Jones was 11th in the discus.
The 4x100m relay team of JeAnna Sheppard, Tia Cook, Danielle Oliver and Kelly McKay placed 8th with a time of 49.55. Channell Lloyd was 12th in the 100m hurdles, while Vengels and Simpson placed 17th and 21st in the event. Carita Riutta and McKay placed 20th and 21st in the 400m dash.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow in the final day of the relays.
