Vengels breaks high jump record in final day at Florida State
Tallahassee, Fla. -- Lisa Vengels placed fifth and broke the Missouri Southern high jump record in the final day of the Florida State University Relays.
Vengels jumped to a provisional height of 5-7, one inch higher than the previous record set by Lori Churchwell (1982) and Sara Mueller (2004). Gayla Booth placed 8th in the event.
Nicole Green placed fourth in the shot put with a provisional distance of 45-03.50, while Channell Lloyd and Booth were 10th and 16th in the triple jump.
The Lions had a strong contingent in the 1500 meters with four in the top 12 and seven overall in the top 40. Kimi Shank placed second with a time of 4:39.07, while Ashley Bunch, Courtney Waltbillig and Olga Bulgarova placed 8th, 11th and 12th, respectively. Marlee Tegenkamp was 23rd, while Michelle Stevens and Victoria Kline placed 30th and 40th, respectively.
In the sprints, Danielle Oliver and Tia Cook were 23rd and 38th, respectively in the 100 meters, while Kelly McKay and Cook placed 26th and 43rd in the 200 meters. Carita Riutta and McKay placed 20th and 21st, respectively in the 400 meters, while Riutta placed fifth in the 800 meter invitational with a time of 2:14.99.
In separate action at the Arkansas Razorback Invitational today, Jill Weeks placed third in the javelin with a provisional distance of 40.08 meters, while Erin Steffens was fourth in the shot put and seventh in the hammer throw.
The Lions will be back in action on April 9 when they travel to the John McDonnell Invitational on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
