Vengels Autos in the high jump and sets school record as Lions compete at Arkansas
Fayetteville, Ark. -- Lisa Vengels broke her own school record in the high jump and automatically qualified for nationals as the Lions women's track and field team competed at both Arkansas and Pittsburg State today.
Vengels won the high jump with a leap of 5-08.75, breaking her previous record she set at Florida State earlier in the season.
Also picking up provisionals at Arkansas Kiley Jones with a second place and top division two finish in the discus, throwing a distance of 142-6. Nicole Green had a provisional in the shot put with a distance of 45-08, while Channell Lloyd earned a provisional in the triple jump with a third place distance of 38-01.50 and another provisional in the 100 hurdles with a seventh place time of 14.48.
Carita Riutta (800m invite) and Kimi Shank (1,500m invite) also picked up provisionals with a 5th and 12th place finish, respectively. Ashley Bunch earned a provisional with a third place and top d-2 finish in the 3k steeplechase, traversing the course in a time of 10:56.24.
Emilie Mieseler earned a provisional with a second place and top d-2 finish in the hammer throw at Pitt State, heaving the hammer 174-08. Also at Pitt, Mieseler was 7th in the shot, while Erin Steffens was 11th in the shot and fifth in the discus.
Courtney Waltbillig placed first in the 1,500 meter traditional race with a time of 4:40.71, while Olga Bulgarova, Kat Oberle and Victoria Kline were 6th, 12th and 14th, respectively.
Kelly McKay, Brandy Simpson and Tia Cook placed 10th, 12th, and 13th respectively in the 200 meters, while Danielle Oliver and Alex Close were 8th and 10th in the 400 meters. Michelle Stevens was fifth in the 800 meters, while Lloyd and Simpson placed 7th and 8th in the 100 meter hurdles.
Rachel Olynik and Gayla Booth placed 7th and 9th in the high jump, while Jill Weeks was third in the javelin. Ciara Lipsey was sixth in the pole vault but had the top d-2 height of 11-11.
Simpson and Lloyd placed 10th and 12th in the long jump while Booth was sixth in the triple jump.
The Lions will be back in action on the 14th and 15th at the KU relays, and then move on to the Central Missouri Relays on the 16th.
