Lisa Vengels named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week
Kansas City, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore Lisa Vengels has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Vengels won the high jump championship at the John McDonnell Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas, with a leap of 5-08.75 feet. The sophomore from Dixon, Mo., broke her own school record set at Florida State earlier in the season by nearly two inches.
She beat her nearest competitor by an inch and three quarters and defeated five Division I athletes in the process. Her mark is tops in the MIAA and third-best in NCAA Division II this season. It is also an automatic qualifying mark to outdoor nationals.
Vengels and the Lions will be back in action on Wednesday and Thursday at the KU Relays before heading to Central Missouri on Friday.
