Lipsey and Bunch lead Lions to successful meet at Arkansas

Fayetteville, Ark. --  The Missouri Southern women's track and field team saw two school records broken and two automatic qualifying results turned in at the University of Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville tonight.

Both Ciara Lipsey in the pole vault and Ashley Bunch in the 3k steeple chase broke their own school records in the event and both automatically qualified for the 2010 outdoor nationals.

Lipsey was third in the pole vault, but was the top division II performer with a height of 12-11.75, breaking her own previous school record by a quarter of an inch. The height is an automatic and ranks tops in the MIAA and second in Division II this season.

Bunch breaks the school record for the second time in a week in the 3k steeple. A week after breaking the record at the Drake Relays with a time of 10:46.57, the senior turned in an automatic qualifying performance with a  first place time of 10:40.53. The time is tops in the MIAA and ranks ninth nationally.

Lisa Vengels took home the title in the high jump with a height of 5-5, while Emilie Mieseler was third in the hammer with the top division II mark and a provisional distance of 171-2. Nicole Green was 10th in the shot put with a provisional distance of 43-8.50, while Erin Steffens and Mieseler placed 14th and 16th.

Channell Lloyd was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a provisional time of 14.51, while Jill Weeks placed fourth in the javelin. Kelly McKay and Tia Cook placed 14th and 20th, respectively in the 100m, while Carita Riutta put up a provisional time in the 800m, finishing ninth with a time of 2:12.96.

Gayla Booth was 17th in the long jump, while Cyarra Prince placed 14th in the 400m. Courtney Waltbillig placed 11th in the 1,500 meters with a provisional time of 4:34.27 and Victoria Kline was 31st in the event. Cook was 20th in the 400m, while Alex Close placed 20th in the 800m.

The Lions will be back in action next week taking part in the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburg State.
