Southern women win third-straight MIAA Outdoor Track Crown

Pittsburg, Kan. -- Kimi Shank raced to a new meet and stadium record in the 5k and helped the Missouri Southern women's track and field team to its third straight title at the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships today. 

Shank also picked up an automatic qualifying mark in the event as she placed first in a time of 16:46.93. The time is also a new school record, breaking her previous mark of 16:52.84 she set this year at Florida State. Courtney Waltbillig was third to earn All-MIAA status, while Ashley Bunch finished fifth. 

Bunch continued her dominance of the 3k steeplechase as she won the event with a new meet and stadium, record, as well as picking up an automatic qualifying time. Kat Oberle was fifth in the event. 

Lisa Vengels broke her own school record in the high jump clearing 5-09.75 to break the previous mark by three quarters of an inch. She took first in the event with a new stadium record, as well.

Channell Lloyd won the 100 hurdles with a provisional time of 14:09 to earn All-MIAA status and she was also an All-MIAA pick in the 400 hurdles, finishing third. Courtney Waltbillig was second int he 1,500 meters to earn All-MIAA honors, while Olga Bulgurova placed 14th and Victoria Kline was 19th. 

Other Lions All-MIAA pics were Kelly McKay finishing third in the 100 meter dash, Carita Riutta placing third in the 800 meters, and Kiley Jones placing third in the discus. 

Danielle Oliver was sixth in the 100 meters, while Gayla Booth and Rachel Olinyk placed 8th and 9th in the high jump. Nicole Green was sixth in the shot put, followed by Emilie Mieseler ninth and Erin Steffens 12th. Green and Steffens placed 8th and 15th in the discus, while Lloyd, Cyarra Prince and Booth were 6th, 7th and 13th in the triple jump. 

Southern had a commanding win in the event scoring 151 points to Central Missouri's 117.5. Pittsburg State was third, followed by Nebraska-Omaha, Truman State, Northwest Missouri, Fort Hays State, Emporia State and Southwest Baptist. 

The Lions will finish up the regular season, competing at the ESU Last Chance next week.
