Lions finish strong in second day of Fazolis/Baymont
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team had six top three finishes in the final day of the 2011 Fazolis/Baymont Inn Invitational today at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Lions had a win in the shot put from Nicole Green as she swept the throwing events this weekend. Green threw a provisional distance of 14.62 meters, while Kylie Cornman finished fifth in the event.
Lisa Vengels placed second in the high jump with a provisional height of 1.72 meters, while Rachel Olinyk and Gayla Booth placed fifth and eighth, respectively. Vanessa Langford picked up a provisional in the pole vault with a new personal best height of 3.50 meters, while Sydney Haase was fourth at 3.40 meters.
Lindsey Bragg and Booth were fourth and fifth in the triple jump, while Jasmin Hughes placed third in the finals of the 60m dash. Vengels was third in the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.17, while Brandy Simpson and JeAnna Sheppard placed sixth and tenth.
Kelly McKay placed 6th in the 400m with a time of 58.66, while Kasey Meadows, Sheppard and Elizabeth Corcoran placed 18th, 19th and 20th. Alex Close was foruth in the 600y with a time of 1:29.73, while Sagan Graskemper placed 8th. Olga Bulgurova was fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:20.45, while Codi Fritchie placed 16th.
Victoria Kline placed second in the 5k with a time of 18:35.36, while Nicole French was 17th. Southern put two different teams in the 4:02.71 and the team of Graskemper, Corcoran, Sheppard and Bragg placing 10th.
Southern will split their squad next weekend with runners at both Arkansas and Pittsburg State.
