Vengels sets a new school record in the pentathlon, finishes fifth

Warrensburg, Mo. -- Missouri Southern junior Lisa Vengels picked up a provisional and a new school record in the indoor pentathlon today in day one of the 2011  MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Central Missouri.

Vengels was second in the high jump and fourth in the 60m hurdles before placing sixth in the shot put and 8th in the long jump. She was third going into the 800m, but placed 7th in that race, dropping her to fifth overall in the competition.

Her point total of 3371 is good enough for an NCAA provisional and is a new school record breaking the mark of 3053 last year by Brandy Simpson.

Vengels earns two points for the Lions toward the team title and the rest of the team will get going in the meet tomorrow morning.
