Lions women compete at rain-soaked John McDonnell Invite

Fayetteville, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team concluded a rain-soaked weekend at John McDonnell Invite at the University of Arkansas.

Brandy Simpson had a good day, breaking 15 seconds for the first time this season in the 100m hurdles as she and JeAnna Sheppard placed 6th and 7th, respectively. Simpson was also third in the long jump, while Lindsey Bragg and Gayla Booth placed 6th and 7th.

Kelly McKay was fourth in the 400m with a time of 57.33, while Tia Cook was 10th in both the 100m and the 200m. Sagan Grasskemper placed 11th in the 200m. Rachel Schrader was 6th in the 1,500m in a time of 4:51.88, while Kelsie Hutsel was 11th. Marlee Tegenkamp placed 3rd in the 5k, while Victoria Kline and Nicole French were 8th and 9th, respectively in the event.

Sheppard and Elizabeth Corcoran were 2nd and 3rd in the 400m hurdles, while Maggie Tennal and Codie Fritchie placed third and fourth in the 3k steeple. Lisa Vengels was second in high jump with Booth taking fourth, while Carita Riutta and Olga Bulgurova placed 11th and 21st in the 800m.

The Lions will be back in action next Friday playing host to the Bob Laptad/Bill Williams Invitational at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
