Lions pick up four wins at Central Missouri Classic
Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up four wins today at the University of Central Missouri Classic in Warrensburg.
Jasmin Hughes picked up a win and a provisional in the 200m today as the Lions had four individuals finish in the top eight in the event. Hughes raced to a time of 25.38, while Melanie Bower and Sagan Graskemper placed second and third. Lindsey Bragg and Mahogany Jones were 8th and 11th in the event.
Lisa Vengels picked up a win and a provisional in the high jump with a height of 5-7. Shelby Sutherland and Gayla Booth placed third and fourth, while Whitney Hardy was sixth. Bower and Sydney Haase tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 11-1.75.
Bragg was first in the long jump with a distance of 17-04.00, while Amber White, Emily Paullus, Shelby Newell, Booth and Taitum Mead placed 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 14th, respectively. The 4x400 relay team of Hughes, Taylor Parris, Bower and Emily Weldin won the event with a time of 4:10.94.
Paullus, JeAnna Sheppard and Vengels placed third, fourth and fifth in the 60m hurdles while White and Sheppard placed third and ninth in the 400m dash. Weldin was third in the 600 yard with a time of 1:29.37, while White, Newell, Jones and Mead placed 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th in the triple jump.
Kylie Brown placed foruth in the 800m with a time of 2:27.82, while Lauren Sanders and Codi Fritchie finished fifth and eighth in the event. Maggie Tennal finished ninth in the mile, while Hutsell and Brown placed 10th and 16th. Lauren Baehr and Nicole French placed 13th and 15th in the 3k, while Kylie Cornman had a provisional in the shot put with a distance of 45-1. Vengels and Paullus placed 10th and 16th in the event, respectively.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend, as Southern plays host to the 2012 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
