Lions show well in final tune up for nationals

Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team competed in its final tune up today before nationals as the Lions were in action at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier. 

JeAnna Sheppard picked up a provisional in the 100m hurdles with a second place finish in a time of 14.30. Lisa Vengels picked up another provisional and an event win in the high jump, clearing 5-8.50.

The Lions' pole vaulters dominated with four in the top six spots. Freshman Melanie Bower had a provisional and a win with a height of 12-02.75, while Ashleigh McFarland was third with a height of 11-09. Vanessa Langford was fourth, while Sydney Haase placed sixth. 

Amber White was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 36-07, while Nicole Green placed third in the shot put with a provisional of 46-00.50. 

Southern will find out this week which athletes will qualify for nationals in Pueblo, Colo.
