Women's track and field picks up six provisionals in MSSU Early Bird

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up six provisionals in the start to the 2012-13 indoor track season today at the MSSU Early Bird in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. 

Melanie Bower and Ashleigh McFarland tied for second and both picked up provisionals in the pole vault with a height of 11-5.75. Freshmen Kaylee Morgan and Brittani Reagan went 1-2 in the long jump and both picked up provisionals. Morgan jumped to a distance of 18-06, while Reagan hit 18-04. Amber White and Shelby Newell went 5th and 6th, while Miriah Johnson and Taitum Mead placed 9th and 10th. 

Reagan won the triple jump with a jump of 38-00.75, while Mahogany Jones, White and Newell placed 3rd, 4th and 7th. Kylie Cornman was second in the shot put with a heave of 43-00.25, while placing second in the weight throw with a distance of 48-04. 

Jackie Wallace won the 60m hurdles with a provisional time of 8.95, while JeAnna Sheppard and Mead placed second and third, respectively. White was third in the 400m, while Mead placed seventh and Emily Weldin won the 800m in a time of 2:29.78. Whitney Hardy was 7th in the 800m. Jasmin Hughes placed fourth in the 200m, while Wallace and Reagan were 5th and 7th and Cassy Kendrick placed sixth in the 3k. 

Shelby Sutherland placed second in the high jump with a height of 5-03.25, while Hardy, Taylor Alumbaugh, Morgan and Johnson placed 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th, respectively. 

Southern's 4x400m relay teams placed second and fourth, with the team of White, MEad, Hardy and Weldin coming in at 4:10.72. 

The Lions will be off for the rest of the month, but will start back up with the MSSU Open Invitational on Jan. 11-12.
