Pentathlon highlights day one of MSSU Lion Invite

Joplin, Mo. -- Freshman Kaylee Morgan took home the title in the pentathlon as the Missouri Southern women's track and field team competed in day one of the MSSU Lion Invite today. 

Morgan scored 3,029 points in the event as she won the high jump and the long jump in the event. Emily Paullus and Miriah Johnson placed third and fifth in the pentathlon. 

Brittani Reagan was second in the long jump with a provisional distance of 18-05.25, while Taitum Mead was fourth with a provisional of 18-02.25. Morgan, Shelby Newell and Amber White placed 7th, 9th and 12th in the event. 

Jasmin Hughes qualified for the finals of the 60m dash, while JeAnna Sheppard, Jackie Wallace, Mead and Paullus all qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles. Hughes placed fourth in the 200m dash with a provisional time of 25.80, while Kylie Cornman was sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 48-08.75.

Lauren Baehr, Cassy Kendrick and Marlee Tegenkamp placed 3rd, 4th and 5th in the 5k. 

Day two of the meet will begin tomorrow at 9 am with the completion of the men's heptathlon.
