Women's track and field signs four for 2013-14
Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern women's track and field and cross country coach Patty Vavra has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the 2013-14 season.
All four are high school athletes with two being local products.
Joining the Lions from Carl Junction High School is Brittney Rose. Rose is a 5-9 hurdler where she was a four-year letterwinner for coach Sarah Wall at CJHS. Going into her senior year, Rose already owns the school records for the 300m hurdles (46.57), and was on a school-record holding 4x400m relay team with a time of 4:07.85. She helped the Bulldogs to an 8th place finish in the state championships last year and has helped CJHS to three-straight conference championships so far, earning the high point award as an individual.
A standout on the basketball court, as well, Rose was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs. The daughter of Dave and Tina Rose, Brittney plans to major in biology at Southern.
Victoria Foley is a 5-11 thrower from McCaulley Catholic High School in Joplin where she has been a two-time letterwinner for the Warriors. Entering her senior season Foley had a very successful junior campaign as she was a conference, district, sectional and state champion in the discus, setting school records in the event, as well as the shot put.
Foley spent her first two years of high school at Seneca High School in Seneca, Mo., where she a district champion and state qualifier in the throws while setting the school record in the discus. Foley also played four years of basketball in high school helping lead Seneca to the co-conference championship as a freshman in 2010. Foley is the daughter of Dale A. Foley Sr. and Alyse Foley and plans to major in either sociology or english at Southern.
Elizabeth Kirby is a 5-0 distance runner from California (Mo.) High School where she has been a four-year letterwinner on both the track and field and cross country teams. A three-time All-District cross-country selection, Kirby was the Tri-County Conference and District Champion in 2012, while being a two-time All-State selection in 2011 and 2012. Kirby was also an All-District and All-Sectional selection in the 3200 meters in track and field, while setting school record in the 3200 meters, 5000 meters and 4x800 meter relay.
She helped lead California High School to the Tri-County Conference Championship and District Championship in cross country as a senior in 2012. Kirby is the daughter of Joe and Gwen Kirby and is undecided in her future major at Southern.
Kayla Bartelsmeyer is a 5-8 distance runner from Springfield, Mo. where she prepped at Republic High School. A three-year letterwinner in track and cross country, she was a state qualifier in cross country this past season, while qualifying for sectionals in track and field.
As a senior she helped her team to the state title this year in cross country. She also has helped lead the Tigers to a sectional appearance in track and field and a state championship as a junior on the basketball court. The daughter of Eric Bartlesmeyer and Kim Kollmeyer, Kayla plans to major in accounting at Southern. Her father played golf at Southern and her mother was a member of the track and field team.
