Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's distance medley relay team took home the MIAA title tonight and the Lions sit in first place going into the final day of the 2013 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The team of Kaitlyn Belisle, Jasmin Hughes, Sydney Potts and Rachel Schrader won the event in a time of 12:16.47 to earn ten points and All-MIAA honors for each of them. The Lions have 47.50 points after the second day of the event, and lead Lincoln by 11.5 points going into Sunday.
Melanie Bower led a strong group in the pole vault as Bower defended her title in the event, and nearly missed a school record with a provosional height of 12-06.75. Sydney Haase was third, while Ashleigh McFarland placed fifth. All three earned provisional marks, while Bower and Haase picked up All-MIAA honors.
Kylie Cornman picked up All-MIAA honors and delivered a provisional distance of 54-02 in the weight throw, placing third. Brittani Reagan was second in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 39-6 to earn All-MIAA honors.
JeAnna Sheppard qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles, while Hughes qualified in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Potts qualified for the finals of the 800m.
The Lions will finish up the meet tomorrow from the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg.
