Lions volleyball falls 3-0 at Sixth Ranked Washburn

Topeka, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell three sets to none tonight at sixth ranked Washburn University in Lee Arena. Individual set scores were 13-25, 21-25 and 16-25. 

Southern (15-12, 5-10 MIAA) was led offensively by 14 kills and a .419 attack average from Ashlee Russell. Jeanna Feldmann had a team-high 13 digs, while Elin Skei added 17 assists.

Washburn (26-2, 14-2 MIAA) was led by Hillary Hughes with 12 kills and Molly Smith had a match-high 20 digs. 

Southern never led in the opening set as the Lady Blues opened up a 10-2 lead to start it off. In the second set, the Lions led 11-8 early on, forcing a Washburn timeout, and led again at 17-13, forcing another Lady Blue timeout. However, coming out of the second timeout, Washburn went on a 7-3 run to tie the set and scored five of the final six points to end the set. 

Washburn opened up a 20-8 lead in the final set, and cruised to the win. 

The Lions will be back in action this Friday evening, playing host to Fort Hays in Young Gym at 7 pm.
