Volleyball splits final day Dallas Baptist Invite

Dallas, Texas -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team split a pair of matches today in the final day of the Dallas Baptist Invitational, defeating East Central (Okla.) in four sets, but falling in three sets to Dallas Baptist in the finale. 

The Lions (2-6) dropped the first set to ECU (1-7), but rebounded to win the next three to take out the Tigers. Individual set scores were 21-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18. 

Rachel Olinyk had 13 kills and hit .321 for the match, while Katie Politte added a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs. Elin Skei had a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 19 digs. Casey Ball had nine kills and 12 digs, while Rocky Crook added 21 digs. Sydney Potts dished out 45 assists in the win. 

Southern fell in straight sets to the host school Dallas Baptist (5-2) in the tournament's finale. Individual set scores were 11-25, 15-25, and 20-25. 

Olinyk led the Lions with ten kills and hit .333 for the match and was named to the All-Tournament team. Ball and Crook had 12 and 10 digs, respectively, while Potts dished out 16 assists. 

The Lions will be back in action this Wednesday with a match at fourth ranked Washburn. First serve is slated for 7 pm.
