Lions fall in a five-set heartbreaker at home to Southwest Baptist

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team lost a heartbreaking five-set match to visiting Southwest Baptist today as their comeback fell just short. 

Southern (2-8, 0-2 MIAA) and SBU (6-4, 2-0 MIAA) split the first four sets, before the Bearcats won the final set 15-13. Individual set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, and 13-15. 

The Lions were led offensively by Rachel Olinyk with 14 kills and a .412 attack percentage. Casey Ball had 16 kills and ten digs, while Katie Politte had 14 kills. Sydney Potts dished out 55 assists, while Elin Skei and Katie Collins added 10 and 17 digs, respectively. 

The Bearcats were led by 16 kills from Kylie Heim, while Britni Reed added 14 of her own. 

Southern will be back in action this Wednesday night with a match at Pittsburg State at 7 pm. It is the first Sonic Trophy Series Match of the season.
