Southern volleyball falls in straight sets at 8th ranked Central Missouri

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team ran into a hot-hitting Central Missouri squad tonight and the eighth ranked Jennies took out the Lions 3-0 at the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg. Individual set scores were 17-25, 27-29, and 14-25. 

Southern (5-19, 3-9 MIAA) couldn't stop the Jennies' (21-4, 11-1 MIAA) offensive attack in the first set as UCM hit .552 on 16 kills and zero errors. The Lions hit .378 as a team in the second set with 18 kills and just four errors and forced extra points, but again the Jennies had a strong hitting performance with a .395 attack average in the second set. In the finale, UCM hit .476 as the Lions had eight kills and eight errors for a .000 mark. 

Rachel Olinyk had a match-high 15 kills and hit .235, while Casey Ball had 12 kills of her own. Rocky Crook had 15 digs, while Sydney Potts dished out 37 assists. 

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday when Southern plays host to Washburn at 7 pm from Young Gymnasium.
