Southern volleyball picked 12th in preseason MIAA coaches poll

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball program has been picked to finish 12th in the 2013 MIAA preseason coaches poll the league announced today.

Southern finished the 2012 season 0-30, but return most of the squad, including five of six starters from a season ago. New to the job, but not to the program is head coach Rachel Kirkman. Kirkman spent last season as an assistant coach for the Lions.

Defending MIAA champion Nebraska-Kearney earned eight of the 12 first-place votes in the poll and the Lopers are picked to defend their title. Central Missouri was second, followed closely by Washburn. Emporia State was fourth, while Pittsburg State round out the top five. Northwest Missouri, Fort Hays, Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood, Missouri Western, Southwest Baptist and Southern round out the poll.

The complete poll is listed below. A video interview with Kirkman is to the right.
