Southern women's cross country make a move in both the national and regional polls
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team climbed the polls this week, moving up five spots in the United States Track and field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll to No. 20.
The Lions also moved up two spots in the South Central Region poll to number four. Southern is coming off of a third place finish at the Jackling Jocks Invite hosted by Missouri S&T where the Lions trailed the team champion, Harding, by just ten points. Junior Marlee Tegenkamp was the individual champion and was named the MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the effort.
Midwestern State retains the top spot in the region, followed by Harding, Pittsburg State, Southern, Northwest Missouri, Truman, West Texas A&M, Southwest Baptist, East Central and Eastern New Mexico.
The Lions have the weekend off, but will be back in action on Oct. 22 when they play host to the 2011 MIAA Cross Country Championships.
