Women's cross country wins 2012 MIAA Championship

Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team had two in the top ten and four in the top 20 and took home the 2012 MIAA Cross Country Championship today as the Championships were hosted by Northwest Missouri State University. 

The win is the sixth MIAA title in the program's history and is the fifth in the last seven years.

Juniors Kaitlyn Belisle and Rachel Schrader finished 5th and 6th and earned All-MIAA status with times of 22:42.10 and 22:43.18 over the 6k course. Senior Marlee Tegenkamp placed 15th with a time of 23:14.65, while Lauren Baehr was 17th with a time of 23:22.81. 

Cassy Kendrick placed 35th in a time of 23:53.88, while Addie Mengwasser was 42nd with a time of 24:04.24. Jet Hovis placed 61st, while Kelsie Hutsell was 84th. 

The lions scored 78 points as a team, defeating second-place Southwest Baptist by six points (84). Pittsburg State finished third, while Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri round out the top five. Nebraska-Kearney was sixth, followed by Truman State, Fort Hays, Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood, Lincoln and Emporia State to round out the team scores. 

With the win, the Lions take the point in cross country for the Sonic Trophy Series. 

The Lions will be back in action on November 3 when they play host to the 2012 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships.
