Women's cross country finishes third at 2013 Southern Stampede
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team finished third amongst non-Division I teams and fifth overall at the 25th running of the First to the Finish Southern Stampede today at the MSSU Cross Country Course.
The Lions scored 98 points as a team finishing just behind Southwest Baptist and Pittsburg State in the team standings. Division I University of Tulsa and University of Oklahoma ran a dual between the two schools and the Golden Huricane had 15 points taking the top five spots between the two schools.
Individually, the Lions were led by a tenth-place finish from Dora Eastin as the junior made her return to the course at MSSU after a two-year layoff. She traveresed the 5k course in a time of 17:54.99. Addie Mengwasser placed 12th with a time of 18:19.19.
Sierra Gray placed 20th with a time of 18:40.18, while Lizzy Kirby and Dana Roberson placed 32nd and 33rd, respectively with times of 18:54.18 and 18:55.95. Kelly Jo Roberts placed 53rd, while Jet Hovis and Kayla Bartlesmeyer placed 57th and 63rd, respectively.
Southern will be back in action on October 5, taking part in the Chili Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas.
