College: Georgia Southern (2011)

Chris Couch comes to Missouri Southern after serving on the staff at Georgia Southern for the past three seasons. He will be responsible for coaching the slot backs at MSSU. He will also recruit Missouri, Georgia, and Florida.

While at Georgia Southern, Couch was the defensive quality control coach for the Eagles. In that capacity, he worked with the linebackers, broke down opponent film, and ran the scout team. During the 2010 campaign, Couch was part of the staff that effectively made the transition from a 3 down to 4 down lineman scheme and developed a defensive unit that ranked among the nation's best in scoring defense (11th, 18.5 ppg.), total defense (9th, 286.9 ypg) and pass defense (11th, 159.9 ypg). That season was marked by an overtime win versus #1 ranked Appalachian State Mountaineers and first playoff berth for Georgia Southern since the 2005 season. Couch also helped the Eagles mold into another defensive unit that was near the top in all major defensive categories in 2011. The 2011 Eagles won the Southern Conference Championship and received another bid to the NCAA playoffs where the Eagles lost to the NDSU Bison, the eventual NCAA FCS national champions.

Couch started his coaching career under NCJAA Hall of Fame coach Bert Williams at Georgia Military College. While at GMC, the bulldogs amassed an 18-4 overall record and back to back NJCAA Bowl Appearances. Couch was responsible for coaching the running backs and slot receivers, including NJCAA All American, Steven Robinson. The running back and slot receiver corps is one that helped the Bulldog offense to have the 4th ranked rushing attack and 15th ranked overall offense in the NJCAA.

Couch is a native of Milledgeville, Georgia. He is the son of Marilu and Garry Couch. Garry is a Hall of Fame coach in the state of Georgia and Marilu is a college educator. Chris also has one brother Ross Couch, who recently married the former Jamie Tyler of Haddock, Georgia. Ross is the defensive coordinator and head women’s basketball coach at Swainsboro High School also in Georgia.  Jamie is a step down nurse in the ICU at Savannah Memorial Hospital.
