A veteran of 12 years in thie high school ranks, Karla Gaines is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Missouri Southern volleyball program.
Gaines spent 12 years as head volleyball coach at College Heights Christian where she won over 200 matches and had seven 20+ win seasons for the Cougars. She was a district champion in four seasons, while finishing as the co-conference champion in 2008 and winning back-to-back conference champinships in 2009 and 2010.
She led the Cougars to four appearances in the state sectional tournaments, while winning two of them. She also led CHCS to back-to-back final four appearances in both 2008 and 2009. In all, Gaines has coached seven all-region, five all-state and 13 all-academic state athletes and 14 of her players have went on to play at the college leve.
Gaines was her conference's Co-Coach of the Year in 2010 and has also coached and managed club ball for over 10 years.
A 1984 graduate of Missouri Southern with a degree in nursing, Gaines played collegiately at Evangel University where she was an All-Conference outside hitter. A native of Nebraska, she was a three-sport athlete in high school where she was a four-year letterwinner and was an All-District, All-Conference and All-State selection in volleyball. A nurse at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, Gaines and her husband Kent, a veterinarian, live in Carthage with their two children, Lacey and Cody.
